Making Your New Year's Resolutions Really Work!!

New Year's resolutions are slightly out of favor -- airily dismissed as a waste of time, given their high failure rate. But there remains something compelling about the onset of a brand new year for reflecting on changes that would improve your life. Still, local gyms are filled with well-intended, out-of-shape people in early January who nearly all go missing by early February, an interesting example of how challenging this whole resolution business is. To provide advice on ways to make resolutions that will actually come to fruition, I called regular Daily Health News contributor and life coach, Lauren Zander, founder of the Handel Group.
Lauren has lost none of her enthusiasm about the potential of New Year's resolutions. She says that everyone has the capacity to make them a success. The way to start -- preferably a number of days before the end of the year -- is to think about the successful changes you have made in the past, perhaps relocating, getting a new job or patching up a failing relationship. By examining past achievements, you can unearth what in these experiences brought about success. Almost always it comes down to the fact that you made it happen because it was something you really, really wanted, says Lauren... and this is what you need to keep in mind as you prepare possible resolutions today. Don't think about what you should do -- plan instead to fill your list with what you really want -- changes that give you a sense of excitement and wonder. Differentiate between a Should and a Wish, advises Lauren. "A should brings up a sense of dread while a wish is more like the feeling of, 'wow, I wish I could have that... do you think I could?' "
WISHES FOR YOUR 2009 LIST
To start your list, note the important areas in your life -- your health, body, relationships, family and finances, possibly home improvement, travel and the like. Jot down possible ideas for each of these areas, whatever strikes you as interesting, such as bringing more romance into your relationship, going on a far-away vacation, running a marathon or learning a new language. (Lauren recalls how her mother once resolved to have more parties and so she came up with a list of theme dinners -- and hosted one each month.) It takes time and creativity to make such a list, so don't rush it... just keep adding your thoughts as they come to you. Then on New Year's Day you can sit with your ideas and determine which are most important and matter most to you. These are the ones you can think about achieving this year.
Review the finalists on your list by plotting out what it would take to make them successful. Consider selecting ones that are out of the ordinary for you, ideas that excite and please you, but also are attainable. For example, say you want to take a fabulous trip with your sister, maybe go to Fiji, but neither of you can afford it this year. You can scrap your idea completely or you can settle for something still exotic but closer to home, perhaps Puerto Rico or a Caribbean island. Or, Lauren says, you might put the trip on a future list but start planning on how to achieve it now... don't let go of your big dreams.
THE DREADED "SHOULDS"
Wishes are challenging but also fun. Shoulds, on the other hand, are really hard and not a lot of fun. Nevertheless, many people have a Should to resolve that crops up annually as the new year approaches. Lauren affirms how hard it is to break a bad habit (and aren't they usually the basis of a Should?), while also pointing out that there are ways to greatly increase your chance of success for those challenges that you really should face.
First, acknowledge how attached you are to the bad habit and why you would really like to hold on to it, whether it is the pleasure of savoring a cigarette with coffee or drinking several glasses of wine in the evening to relax... or the instant gratification of snacking on cupcakes and ice cream... whatever it is. To confront the hold a bad habit has on you, you must admit how you really feel about it. Doing so makes it possible for you to face honestly what you are going to give up. The next step may sound odd, but it will change the paradigm you have about a bad habit, which is what it takes to open the door to success. Here it is: Turn your Should into a Wish by finding some aspect of your habit that makes the thought of continuing it intolerable. For instance, instead of considering cigarettes a treat that brings you pleasure, visualize them as sharp nails in your coffin. Lauren herself is a former smoker. Her definitive decision to quit came as she was rummaging in her purse for a cigarette and saw someone scavenging on the sidewalk reaching for a used butt. "I realized at that moment he and I were the same -- losers -- and it horrified me," she recalls.
To heighten your chances of succeeding with your resolutions this year, be sure to tell lots of people what you are doing. You could even find someone with the same or similar resolutions to be a change-buddy with -- you can support one another as you go through the process. But choose carefully -- find people who have been successful at making change themselves. Like company will make you strong... similarly, pairing up with those who fail puts you at risk for failure.
Interestingly, the very act of deciding on a resolution and making it a priority increases the energy you bring to it, says Lauren. "Change isn't that difficult," she adds. "It takes effort, of course, but once you start making the effort, it stops feeling so hard."

George W. Bush.
The term Bushism is a neologism that refers to a number of peculiar words, phrases, pronunciations, malapropisms and semantic or linguistic errors that have occurred in the public speaking of United States President George W. Bush and, before that, of his father, George H. W. Bush, a former United States president.[1][2] The term has become part of popular folklore and is the basis of a number of websites and published books. It is often used to caricature the two presidents. Common characteristics include malapropisms, the creation of neologisms, and spoonerisms.
The Bushs' frequent misuse of the English language in formal and public speeches has spawned dozens of books that document the phenomenon. The majority are written by Slate magazine editor Jacob Weisberg. The first, Bushisms, was released in 2002. The Bushism books have been received well around the world, with editions released in Germany, France, and Italy landing on best seller lists.[3] A poem entitled Make the Pie Higher, composed entirely of Bushisms, was compiled by high school English teacher Dirk Schulze under the pseudonym of Richard Thompson, as an example of a found poem for his students.[4]

"Families is where our nation finds hope, where wings take dream." —LaCrosse, Wis., Oct. 18, 2000
"I know how hard it is for you to put food on your family." —Greater Nashua, N.H., Jan. 27, 2000
"Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people, and neither do we." —Washington, D.C., Aug. 5, 2004

GIFT OF GIVING JOY Category: Religion and Philosophy
GIFT OF GIVING JOY
Many of us learned anger at the hands of our parents and elders. Not anger as a tool to teach when a child does something inappropriate, but anger at their lives, anger at their situations, anger at God. Unknowingly, many of us took that very anger into our own experience. Our parents and elders weren't always equipped to teach us anything other than what they learned.
The Good News of God is that we can unlearn the anger of our past, and learn the love of our Lord. We can heal from the anger that we've carried for so very long, and instead bestow upon our children the gift of giving joy. Let's not pass along the sins of our elders to the next generation. Become a parent who turns it around.

Your Promise to God: I turn away from any anger that I inherited and turn it around to the peace of God in my life, and in the life of my family.

I am working on that anger issue passed down to me by "Good Ole Mom" amongst others. (sorry if this makes you mad, or should I say Madder Mom, but maybe it will help) I just went on a rampage of anger and I realize I hurt a lot of people with my words. People from my boyfriend to my Mom and everyone in between who happened to look at me funny in my 2-3 days of 'Setting My Boundaries.' Thanks goes to Vera, (my counselor)who handed me a pamphlet on 'Boundaries.' I took it and ran with it. I said 'you aint gone do this to me anymore, you aint gone do that to me anymore!!' 'You just wanna push all my buttons cuz you Mr. Right and I'm Mrs. Wrong. Right now I'm the one who's gone sing this song. I'm a be Ms. Wright TODAY!!!! (MJB)There was even a couple of fist fights, two that I can remember. Counselor wanted to put me away. I said please do before I.......Instead she gave me a new medication. Seroquel 25 mg. It's supposed to stop the psychosis. We will see. Hope I can live with the side effects, if any...

The song I put on when I'm haven me one of them days where I just don't wanna be bothered is Mary J. Blidge's "Roses." I'll put that mug on repeat, put my headphones on and just 'Let it Go.' By the end of the song the tears come.. Love you MJB

Just Because He's Black

A white man asked his black friend, 'Are you voting for Barack Obama just because he's black?'The black man responded by saying, 'Why not? Hell, in this country men are pulled over everyday just cause they're black; passed over for promotions just cause they're black; considered to be criminals justcause they're black; and there are going to be thousands of you who won't be voting for him just because he's black! However, you do not seem to have a problem with that! This country was built with the sweatand whip off the black slaves' back, and now a descendent of those same slaves has a chance to lead the same country, where we weren't even considered to be people, where we weren't allowed to be educated, drink from the same water fountains, eat in the same restaurants, or even vote. So yes! I'm going to vote for him! But it's not just because he's black, but because he is hope, he is change, and he now allows me to understand when my grandson says that he wants to be president when he grows up, it is not a fairy tale but a short term goal. He now sees, understands and knows that he can achieve, withstand and do
ANYTHING just because he's black!'

Tales From The Crypt

-John McCain just accepted the Republican nomination and adopted the most conservative platform in the history of his party. After days of negative attacks -- and no mention of real proposals to fix our economy, get more people health care, or make America safer -- the party that brought you eight years of disastrous policies is asking for four more. Well, not if we have anything to say about it. Across this nation, people like you have joined this movement because you believe that we are better than the past eight years. And now that we are entering the final stretch, it's going to take all of us to bring the change we need.

Step up at this crucial moment and make a donation of $5 or more to change our country. After the last eight years, it's up to you to keep America's promise alive. How can John McCain pull us out of the deep hole we're in when he voted with George Bush more than 90% of the time? The American people deserve more than a 10% chance at change. No matter what McCain says, we can't bring about change by relying on the same ideas that have failed us for the last eight years. Show the McCain campaign that people coming together, giving what they can afford, and working toward a common purpose will transform this country. Change begins with you.

Please make a donation of $5 or more now: http://my.barackobama.com/page/m/6f2129af5549001f/m5kp2N/VEsE/ Thanks for everything you're doing, Joe

Websites I Love

If your hair is affected by the humidity, then you have come to the right place. Hair Forecast takes the daily weather forecast for your city and translates it into a simple scale of 1 to 10 that tells how your hair will behave.

About once a week I will be posting about a new website I have found..Under Web Sites I Love....Here is one I found in Cosmo Girl Magazine!!

Help dig wells in Africa
Why?Because millions of Africans lack access to clean water. Because many Africans walk several miles every day to the nearest well to retrieve water. Because Africans living with HIV/AIDS live stronger and longer lives with access to clean water. Because I think Hair

Forecast can do much more than just help people with their hair!

How?Blood: Water Mission is building 1000 wells in 1000 communities in Africa and calling it the "1000 Wells Project". With every Hair Forecast served, I'm donating enough to the 1000 Wells Project to provide an African with one day's worth of clean water. Hair Forecast is not yet profitable, so initially this donation is coming out of my own pocket. So spread the word about Hair Forecast! Every day that you get your Hair Forecast means another day of clean water for an African. http://www.hairforecast.com/hairforecast/donation

WHEN YOU THOUGHT I WASN'T LOOKING

A message every adult should read because children are watching you and doing as you do, not as you say.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator, and I immediately wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you feed a stray cat, and I learned that it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make my favorite cake for me, and I learned that the little things can be the special things in life.

When you thought I wasn't looking I heard you say a prayer, and I knew that there is a God I could always talk to, and I learned to trust in Him.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you make a meal and take it to a friend who was sick, and I learned that we all have to help take care of each other.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you give of your time and money to help people who had nothing, and I learned that those who have something should give to those who don't.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw you take care of our house and everyone in it, and I learned we have to take care of what we are given.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw how you handled your responsibilities, even when you didn' t feel good, and I learned that I would have to be responsible when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw tears come from your eyes, and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

When you thought I wasn't looking I saw that you cared, and I wanted to be everything that I could be.

When you thought I wasn't looking I learned most of life's lessons that I need to know to be a good and productive person when I grow up.

When you thought I wasn't looking I looked at you and wanted to say, 'Thanks for all the things I saw whenyou thought I wasn't looking.'

I AM SENDING THIS TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE I KNOW
WHO DO SO MUCH FOR OTHERS, BUT THINK THAT NO ONE EVER SEES.
LITTLE EYES SEE A LOT.

Each of us (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, teacher, friend)
influences the life of a child. How will you touch the life of someone today? Just b y sending this to someone else, you will probably make them at least think about their influence on others.

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply.
Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.

A MOMENT TO PONDER

Things that make you go hmmmm???? by Tina Marie
Date Night ???

June 18 , 2008

How did you spend time together when you fell in love? How often did you go out when you were dating? It's time to start dating again....dating your spouse. Date night can work magic for your marriage.
There are some that say you need to get out of the house; no movies or entertainment that require you to face in the same direction; don't invite anyone else or attend a social function and schedule at least a couple of hours.
That's all cool. However, my husband and I love to cook. So our date night is sharing the prepping, cooking, serving, lots of wonderful conversation and a bottle of wine on the deck. Just the two of us, no TV, friends or family. It's perfect. Our gift to each other is the gift of time and undivided attention.
How do you spend date night? There are no right or wrong answers. It is simply who we are, embracing the freedoms of our individuality. Here’s to us as individuals! May we trust in ourselves, grow from our experiences and become wiser and kinder each day.

My good friend and I did just that last night, but at the time I didn't look at it as a date. Now that I look back, cooking in the kitchen with him and then sitting at the table talking and eating was very intimate to me. Then we went and sat on the porch and had a beer together, looking at the stars (what little stars you can see in the Seattle area.) And to think I was always bitchen about not being taken out to dinner or to the movies enough. Wow, you don't have to spend money to go on a date!!

A prophetic Robert F. Kennedy Speech Made in 1968

He gave a speech to the Voice of America all around the world 40 years ago. And despite what was going on in the country, particularly in Alabama, Bobby Kennedy said this: Things are "moving so fast in race relations a Negro could be president in 40 years." This is in 1968, we're now in 2008. "`There's no question about it,' the attorney general said. `In the next 40 years a Negro can achieve the same position that my brother has.' ... Kennedy said that prejudice exists and probably will continue to ... `But we have tried to make progress and we are making progress. We are not going to accept the status quo.

"The wealth of the greedy
ultimately goes to the community".

Americanized Version:

If there are two brothers in a home,
both must work to feed the family."

Which is the very meaning of this Brass- Two Headed Crocodile

Dream Tonight

Ever look to the sky
ask yourself and wonder why
When a heart breaks and wants to cry
It mends for another try
Gaze into the heaven above
Searching for one true love
the sky transforms into night
Hazing your mind with sight

And Dream

Oh Yea Dream

Dream on with all your might
Dream on throughout the night
Ponder your thoughts away
Dreams turning night to day

So Dream

Oh Yeah Dream

The power of love at night

Like a dream a vision of light

sparks fly every which way

Turns day to night so they say

So Dream

Oh Yea Dream

Miracles do come true
Clouds go, the sky turns blue
The darkness of night comes by
so dreams can fill the sky
Dream on with all your might
Dream on throughout the night
The power of love at night
Like dreams. A vision of light

So Dream

Oh Yea Dream

Gaze to the heaven above
seek out your one true love
Ponder your thoughts away
Dreams turning night to day
Sparks fly every which way
Turns day to night so they say

HOPE

After you once raised your voice to me

Then your hand

Then your fist

I lost respect

for you

for myself

for us...What we once were

and never will be again.

I live in hope

that you will change

that I won't feel guilty

that we will be happy

that you will stop drinking

that you will DIE

My hope is a pipe-dream

I live in hope.

S.P.E.M. PRAYER

SPEM Prayer
ODB RADIO: Listen Now DownloadREAD: Ephesians 3:14-21
I bow my knees to the Father . . . that He would grant you . . . to be strengthened with might through His Spirit. —Ephesians 3:14,16
A friend sent me an e-mail that concluded with a list of prayer requests. She said, “Spiritually, I am confused, so pray for understanding. Physically, I am tired, so pray for rest. Emotionally, I am very weak, so pray for strength. Mentally, I am worried, so pray for peace.”
When I saw her later, I told her, “I’ve been SPEM praying for you.” She looked confused, so I told her I was praying for her spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
Scripture illustrates God’s care in each of these areas.
Spiritual: Jesus prayed for His disciples: “Sanctify them by Your truth” (John 17:17). Truth leads to spiritual understanding, eliminating confusion.
Physical: Peter had a physical need—release from jail. His friends prayed—and he got out (Acts 12:1-11). In God’s care we find security and rest (Ps. 16:9).
Emotional: Often the psalmists asked God for relief from distress (4:1; 18:6; 107:6-7). He brings hope.
Mental: Insight and wisdom are promised for those who cry out to God (Prov. 2:3-6; James 1:5-7). Through prayer and reading His Word, the peace of God can be found.
Are you struggling? Ask God for spiritual, physical, emotional, and mental assistance. — Dave Branon

Tips on pumping Gas... Very intersting!!

ON PUMPING GAS

we're paying $3.53 a gallon for regular unleaded her in Washington. Here are some tips from someone working in petrolium..

I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are

some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..

Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline, regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.

Only buy or fill up your car or truck in the early morning when the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.

A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business. But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the pumps.

When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three (3)stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are create ed while you are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for your money.

One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is actually the exact amount.

Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

DO SHARE THESE TIPS WITH OTHERS!

WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON

Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American goods. We should return the favor.

An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.

Every time you fill up the car, you can avoid putting more money into the pockets of Saudi Arabians . Just buy from gas companies that don't import their oil from the Saudis.

Nothing is more frustrating than the feeling that every time I fill-up the tank, I am sending my money to people who are trying to kill me , my family, and my friends.

I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies import Middle Eastern oil.

These companies import Middle Eastern oil:

Shell........................... 205,742,000 barrels

Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels

Exxon/Mobil............... 130,082,000 barrels

Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels

Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels

Citgo gas is from South America , from a Dictator who hates Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel

Here are some large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:

Sunoco..................0 barrels

Conoco................. .0 barrels

Sinclair..................0 barrels

BP/ Phillip s.............0 barrels

Hess......................0 barrels

ARC0.....................0 barrels

If you go to Sunoco.com <" target=_blankhttp://sunoco.com/>; , you will get a list of the station locations near you.

All of this information is available from the Department of Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how much they are importing.

But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of gas buyers. It's really simple to do.

Now, don't wimp out at this point.... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!!

This was sent to me by a relative in an e-mail. Feel free to copy this message on your blog or wherever!!

I'm sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)...and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) .. and so on, by the ti me the me ssage reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers!!!! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted!

If it goes one level further, you guessed it ..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!

Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people. How long would all that take?

There Comes A Time...

There comes a time in every woman's life when she has to take a close look at herself. Not at her circumstance, not at what she did, not how unfair life is, or at who made you do it. She has to just look at herself in all her glory and imperfection. Have you ever admired a woman who has been through changes in her life? Or have you made up your mind that she is just messed up. Before you make this mistake, take a closer look. A woman who has endured the most unusual life is someone of wisdom, someone who has been chosen by God to go through things that have made her stronger.

Think of all the great women in the Bible: Mary Magdalene, Ruth and Naomi, the woman with an issue of blood, and Esther, to name a few. Mary was a prostitute, a very uneasy woman. But by the time Jesus was done with her, she was His closest follower. Esther was unfortunate in marrying an abusive man, but by the time God was done with her, she had married one of the wealthiest men in the land!

Women are so quick to beat the next one down instead of trying to hold her up. Before you wonder, "What's up with her?" ask yourself, "What's up with me?" That woman could be my mother, sister, aunt, in-law, stepmother, niece, grandmother, great-grandmother, neighbor, friend, or co-worker, etc. that woman could be ME.

Women are the carriers of life, not the channels of death. Let's build and encourage each other, as did Ruth and Naomi. Pass this on to all the women in your life. Encourage and love, forgive and forget, and trust that the woman that receives this will be touched in some way.

May the Peace and Love of Christ be upon you!
